Panel members:

Baroness (Ros) Altmann, Former Pension Minister
Baroness Ros Altmann is an award-winning expert on later life issues, including pensions, long-term investment, finance, retail savings, retirement planning and elderly care policy. She is an academic economist by training and was an institutional asset manager for many years, heading international pension investing for Chase and Rothschilds in London, before starting her own consultancy advising financial firms, pension funds, corporates, governments and policymakers on pensions, investment and later life policies. She is a consumer advocate as well as understanding the needs of financial firms.

Ros now sits in the House of Lords and is a Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics, Emeritus Governor of the LSE, a Governor of the Pensions Policy Institute and an adviser to the International Longevity Centre. She is a Board Adviser to NatWest Cushon and a Non-Executive Director of Capital Pension Solutions.

 

Annabel Brodie-Smith, Communications Director for the Association of Investment Companies
Annabel Brodie-Smith is Communications Director at the Association of Investment Companies (AIC). She champions investment trusts, communicating their uses and benefits to the media, wealth managers, advisers and private investors. She also encourages investment trusts to communicate to a wider audience in a clear and engaging way.

Annabel is passionate about financial education and diversity in financial services and is currently an ambassador for Women on Boards and The Diversity Project. She is a member of the ACT Global Leadership Council which supports the ACT standard of corporate culture for investment management firms. In 2022 Annabel was awarded the Jackie Beard Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Industry at the Investment Week Investment Company of the Year awards.

After obtaining a B.A in Geography from LSE/King’s College, and an M.A from Syracuse University in New York, Annabel went on to obtain a postgraduate diploma in public and media relations from the University of Wales. Prior to joining the AIC in 1997 Annabel worked at Hill & Knowlton, the PR Agency.

 

Mark Bentley, Director of ShareSoc with responsibility for IT
Mark has been a full-time stock market investor since 2004, having pursued investment as a rewarding hobby for 20 years previously. Most of Mark’s career was spent in the I.T. industry beginning with Logica in 1980, where he worked on the Giotto Halley’s Comet intercept mission for the European Space Agency amongst other projects. In 1987 Mark started his own IT services business, Anvil Technology Ltd, which he ran successfully for 14 years. He is an active investor, attending many company meetings each year and publishes his findings on a number of investment orientated web sites.

 

 

 

 

Jez Dyer, Convener, SIGnet Reading Group
Jez works three days a week as a director for a consultancy in the Real Estate sector. He has been an active investor for 20 years and joined the Henley SIGnet Group approx 12 years ago.  More recently, he has set up a SIGnet Group in Reading.

Mark Northway, Director of ShareSoc
Mark is an experienced practitioner in financial markets with wide ranging managerial and governance experience across credit, fixed income, equity and treasury markets, and associated cash and derivative instruments. His experience spans multiple disciplines including marketing, trading, investment and the management of complex financial and regulatory risk within a variety of vehicles and legal structures. Mark chaired ShareSoc from April 2016 to December 2021.
