Launch Meeting for New Beginners’ Group

SIGnet is a national network of individual investor groups in the UK. Groups meet on a regular basis (in-person or online), typically monthly, to give individual investors the opportunity to socialise, discuss, and learn from each other. The main goal is to improve members’ knowledge and investment decision-making processes through free discussion and mutual education. We are launching a new virtual group for those in the early stages of their investing journey
This particular group will be structured as a course, aimed at those who are new to investing, to run for up to 10 months, starting in October 2025.
We will hold an initial Zoom meeting at 6:30 pm on Monday 5th August for you to find out more about this group.
The Beginners’ Group will cover the basics of how to select, buy and sell shares, bonds and collectives; and also how to structure a long term portfolio in a tax efficient way.
The Conveners will be Paul Fisher and John Calvert of the Leeds Originals and Veritas Groups. Both are keen investors and have been SIGnet members for over 25 years!
There will be 8 topics:
- Shares
- Bonds
- Terms and Ratios
- ISAs and SIPPS
- Diversification
- Investment Trusts, Unit Trusts (Funds), and Exchange Traded Funds (ETF)
- Portfolio Theory
- Charting
If you feel that you have a good understanding of the above topics already, you may like to consider our Intermediate group as an alternative.
Please register for this online meeting if you are interested in joining the new Beginners’ Group and would like to hear more about it. Even if you find you cannot join the meeting, registering will put you on the list to receive further details of the group, once available.
This launch meeting is open to anyone. If not already a member, you will need to join SIGnet to attend subsequent meetings.
Places in the new group are limited. Priority goes to members who register for SIGnet within 5 days of the launch meeting and aren’t in other groups. Remaining spots will be given to SIGnet/Premium members on a first-come, first-served basis*. If the group is full, we’ll add you to a waiting list and may start another group if a volunteer Convener is available.

*SIGnet members can join up to two groups if there are vacancies. Priority is given to those who haven’t reached their limit. To join more than two groups, please email your request to info@sharesoc.org for the Head of SIGnet’s attention.
