Launch Meeting for New Intermediate Group

SIGnet is a national network of individual investor groups in the UK. Groups meet on a regular basis (in-person or online), typically monthly, to give individual investors the opportunity to socialise, discuss, and learn from each other. The main goal is to improve members’ knowledge and investment decision-making processes through free discussion and mutual education. We are launching a new virtual group for those in the early stages of their investing journey, but who are familiar with the basics
This particular group will be structured as a course, to run for up to 10 months, starting in October 2026.
We will hold an initial Zoom meeting at 6:30 pm on 28th September for you to find out more.
The Intermediates Group will be for those who already have some experience of investing, but want to develop their knowledge of analysing companies, investment strategies and building and managing a portfolio. The Conveners will be Sam Morland, a retired fund manager and Convener of the Central London and London Tuesday Evening Groups, Mark Woolhouse, owner of a financial training company and Convener of the Harpenden Group, and Greg Mayes, ex Head of Financial Markets Training at Barclays Investment Bank and Mark’s business partner.
The detail of the sessions is yet to be finalised, but is expected to include:
- Financial Statements and ratios
- Valuation
- Screens
- Portfolio theory / management
- The investing game
- Information Sources
- Do’s and Don’t’s
- Investment Trusts and Exchange Traded Funds
If you feel this may be a little advanced take look at our Beginners’ Group as an alternative. The Intermediate Group will not cover the basics of investing.
Please register for this online meeting if you are interested in joining the new Intermediate Group and would like to hear more about it. Even if you find you cannot join the meeting, registering will put you on the list to receive further details of the group, once available.
This launch meeting is open to anyone. If not already a member, you will need to join SIGnet to attend subsequent meetings.
Places in the new group are limited. Priority goes to members who register for SIGnet within 5 days of the launch meeting and aren’t in other groups. Remaining spots will be given to SIGnet/Premium members on a first-come, first-served basis*. If the group is full, we’ll add you to a waiting list and may start another group if a volunteer Convener is available.

*SIGnet members can join up to two groups if there are vacancies. Priority is given to those who haven’t reached their limit. To join more than two groups, please email your request to info@sharesoc.org for the Head of SIGnet’s attention.
