Henderson Opportunities Trust plc (HOT) aims to achieve capital growth in excess of the FTSE All-Share Index from a portfolio of primarily UK investments. What this means in practice is that HOT is a blend of what could be tomorrow’s leading British companies – from promising early-stage businesses to established businesses reinventing themselves. With the aim of smoothing volatility, HOT also invest in ‘stabilisers’ – large, mature companies that are still growing and natural resources businesses that can generate returns when other elements of the portfolio may struggle. This strategy has delivered outperformance vs. the benchmark over a 10 year period, and helped the Trust place on the AIC’s next generation dividend hero list – with 13 years of dividend growth.
Speaker’s bio:
James Henderson – Portfolio Manager
James Henderson is a Portfolio Manager on the Global Equity Income Team at Janus Henderson Investors, a position he has held since 2003. He joined Henderson in 1983 as a trainee fund manager and has successfully managed a number of investment trusts since 1990. Prior to this, he was an accountant trainee at Binder Hamlyn. James graduated with an MA (Hons) in economics from Cambridge University. He has 42 years of financial industry experience.
