UNILEVER (ULVR) AGM 2018

On 2 May 2018, I attended the Annual General Meeting of Unilever (ULVR)in the Queen Elizabeth Hall conveniently situated close to Waterloo station, which started at 10:30 AM. Prior to that we were served a choice of PG Tips and Lipton's and other Unilever brands. I am a 30 year shareholder in Unilever and very pleased with performance. Unilever is a hugely complex company with about £110bn market cap, Euro 54bn turnover, Profit after tax of Euro 6.5 bn and 8% dividend increase. ...

RTC (RTC) AGM 2018

Last week (18/4/2018) I attended the Annual General Meeting of RTC Plc (RTC) in the very splendid offices of Gowling WLP at 4 More London Riverside with wonderful views of the Tower of London. Here’s a brief report on the event. There were about a dozen ordinary shareholders present, three directors (the only NED, Mr May, was ill and unable to attend) and the auditor who arrived late. RTC is a tiny £8m market cap company. Although it has a turnover of ...

Driver Group AGM 2018

I was pleased to attend yesterday my first AGM for Driver Group (DRV), a UK based consultancy services business comprising two separate entities namely Driver Trett (Construction Claims / Disputes) and Diales (Expert Witness). I have been aware of this business for a number of years but have only recently invested after a change in management and refinancing around the middle of last year. The Group has... CML Microsystems (CML) – Report and Presentation 2018

These are notes taken by Alan Grant (Member) from a CML presentation he saw in Manchester on 20th February 2018. His notes reference a slide pack which you can see attached. Slide 2 Introduction to products CML customers are industrial and apart from 2 customers at 30% of business (looking to reduce by expansion of business) no other single customer accounts for more than 6% of turnover. Data storage and RF communications are their two sectors, but they are looking to add a third ...

Chrysalis VCT (CYS) AGM 2018

Last week (27/2/2018) I attended the Annual General Meeting of Chrysalis VCT Plc (CYS) in the City of London. Here’s a brief report on the event. There were about half a dozen ordinary shareholders present, the three directors and fund management representatives despite the difficult travel conditions. Chrysalis is of course a venture capital trust but somewhat different to many VCTs. It has a good performance record in recent years but does not undertake share buy-backs. As a result the shares trade ...

Northern Venture Managers Investor Seminar (NVT) 2018

I attended the annual Northern Venture Managers Investor Seminar at the British Museum on 28th February. Before the meeting started I mingled with the guests and bumped into Simon Constantine, Chairman of Northern Venture Trust PLC. He clearly knew of ShareSoc and had corresponded with us in the past. He mentioned that the VCT industry’s investment managers including NVM had recently formed a lobbying association which was actively engaged with Govt on the matter of tax incentivised investments. The group had been ...

Unicorn AIM VCT (UAV) AGM 2018

Yesterday I attended the AGM of Unicorn AIM VCT (UAV) which is of course a Venture Capital Trust. I am generally not wildly keen on AIM VCTs from past experience – they tend to buy shares in companies from IPOs and Placings when the prospects for the company are being puffed up by promoters, and then they have no ability to intervene when problems arise as do VCTs who invest in unlisted shares and with onerous shareholder agreements. Neither can they ...

Blancco (BLTG) 2017 AGM report

Blannco is an AIM listed software company that specialises in data erasure and mobile phone diagnostics. It transmogrified from a business named Regenersis which was into hardware repair and there were changes of management and restructuring when that happened. The meeting was chaired by Rob Woodward with about a dozen, mainly disgruntled, private shareholders present. The reason for their unhappiness is no doubt the substantial losses reported in the last three years (£4.3 million in the year ending June 2017) compounded by the ...

Dunelm (DNLM) 2017 AGM report

I attended the annual general meeting (AGM) of Dunelm, on November 21, 2017, as a proxy for Roger Lawson. Roger had raised the issue of inconveniently timed AGMs in a recent ShareSoc blog, and Dunelm's meeting adds to the impression that some companies arrange their AGMs to avoid private shareholders from attending. It is a pity, because Dunelm is a good company, and the directors were more than happy to talk about their business both before and after the meeting. Dunelm's meeting ...

Abcam Plc (ABC) AGM 2017

Yesterday I attended the Annual General Meeting of Abcam Plc at their office in Cambridge. 15 ordinary shareholders were present at the AGM along with the board (minus non-exec Mara Aspenall who was in the USA) and usual hangers on. Some financial highlights from the results are as follows: Total revenue increased by 26% (10% on a constant exchange rate basis), EBITDA margin was 32.5% compared to 33.6% in 2016, profit before tax £51.9m compared with £45.4m and a full year dividend ...
