Comments on Possible Offer for GB Group

The views expressed in this article are those of its author and not necessarily those of ShareSoc. Announcements late yesterday and this morning (7th September 2022) indicate that GB Group (GBG) may receive a cash offer for the business from private equity firm GTCR. I have held these shares since 2011 – first purchased at 42p, closed last night at 522p. It’s one of my larger holdings and needless to say I have been very happy with my investment as it has ...

Comments on GB Group and Voting Considerations

This article represents the view of its author and not necessarily those of ShareSoc. GB Group (GBG) is a provider of digital location, identity verification and fraud prevention systems. Because of the need to identify people quickly and at low cost in the digital world, it has been a great success in the last few years and has become one of the largest AIM companies. Revenue has grown from £87m to £242m in the last 5 years although profits have been less ...

Market Musings

The stock market seems to be positively benign at present, if not almost somnambulant. While certain sections of the economy have gone to hell in a handcart, the enthusiasm for technology stocks has not abated. My very diversified portfolio is up today at the time of writing by 0.4% helped by good news from Dotdigital (DOTD) today and a sudden enthusiasm for GB Group (GBG). Optimism about a more general recovery in the economy seems to be still prevalent. It’s probably a ...

GB Group, Patisserie Holdings, FRC Stewardship Code and Halma

The stock market seems to be in limbo as business waits to see the outcome of Brexit politics. In my portfolio, small cap companies are drifting down and even...

GB Group, Social Media, Rightmove and Alliance Trust

Yesterday I attended the Annual General Meeting of GB Group (GBG) in Chester. An absolutely horrendous road journey both there and back mainly due to road works as far as I can tell. But my satnav took me on the M25, M11, A14, M6, M54 and numerous minor roads on the way there from south-east London, and the M6, A50, M1, A14, M11, M25 and other minor roads on the way back. A typical example of how the UK road network ...

Identity Theft – Experian, TalkTalk and Optimal Payments

There have been a spate of cases of digital identity theft or breaches of security from UK listed companies of late. Their shares prices have all been affected to a greater or lesser extent. On the 2nd October, Experian (EXPN) reported that 15 million US consumers who had applied for T-Mobile services had been the subject of theft of their personal information. T-Mobile is reviewing its relationship with the company, but the share price only suffered a temporary setback even though the ...

GB Group AGM

Today (28/07/2022) I attended the Annual General Meeting of GB Group (GBG) via the Lumi online platform. This worked well as one could both submit questions and vote via the platform. It appeared there were few attendees either physically or on-line as I was the only person who submitted any questions. I asked why not all directors were up for re-election which is now considered best practice. The answer from the Company Secretary was that this was not a requirement for AIM ...

GB Group (GBG) AGM Report 2015

I drove to the GB Group AGM in Chester but fortunately they set the time at 1.00 pm even though their post code of CH4 9GB led my Satnav to their old offices about a mile away (they have a customised post code you will notice). The heavy traffic on the roads and the numerous accidents (on the M25, A14 and M1, all of which I had to divert around) tells you a lot about the state of the economy. In ...

GB Group (GBG) AGM Report 2012

On the 9th July I travelled to Chester for the Annual General Meeting of GB Group. Their offices are in a modern business park in the suburbs of Chester. There were only two ordinary shareholders present (including me) and I gather that was not untypical. GB Group are in the identity management business. Overall revenue last year was £32m of which £13m came from “data authentication” (basically personal identity verification services) and £19m from “data solutions” which provides identity capture and analysis. ...
