SIGnet Beginners’ and Intermediate Groups Launch

SIGnet is a UK-wide network of investor groups that meet regularly (in-person or online) to discuss investing topics and companies of interest to members. Visit the SIGnet website for more information about SIGnet and how its groups operate.
We are launching two new virtual groups for those in the early stages of their investing career
Both groups will be structured as courses to run for up to 10 months, starting in October 2024.
We will hold an initial Zoom meeting at 7.00 pm on Monday 23rd September for you to find out more about these two new groups.
The Beginners’ Group will cover the basics of how to select, buy and sell shares. The Conveners will be Paul Fisher and John Calvert of the Leeds Originals and Leeds Veritas Groups. Both are keen investors and have been SIGnet members for over 25 years!
There will be 8 topics:
- Shares
- Bonds
- Terms and Ratios
- ISAs and SIPPS
- Diversification
- Investment Trusts, Unit Trusts (Funds), and Exchange Traded Funds (ETF)
- Portfolio Theory
- Charting
The Intermediate Group will be for those who already have some experience of investing, but want to develop their knowledge of analysing companies, investment strategies and building and managing a portfolio. The Convener will be Bill Fawkner-Corbett, who has been an active private investor since 2008, and is Head of SIGnet. The 8 topics will be:
- Beating the Market
- Financial Statements and Ratios
- Valuation
- Screens
- Investing Styles
- Portfolio Management
- Technical Analysis
- Investment Trusts and Exchange Traded Funds
