A page dedicated to the memory of Mark Bentley – a founding director and dedicated advocate for individual shareholders

Mark Bentley

Mark Bentley, who was a founding director of ShareSoc in 2011, died on 26th December 2025 following a short illness. He played a major role in the development of the Society and worked tirelessly in the interests of individual shareholders.

He spent much of his career in the IT industry, starting with Logica in 1980 where he worked on major projects including the European Space Agency’s Giotto mission. In 1987 he founded Anvil Technology Ltd, which he ran successfully for 14 years.

Mark had been an active private investor for many years before becoming full time in 2004. He attended numerous company meetings and shared his insights through regular investment reports.

He was closely involved in ShareSoc’s policy work and major campaigns, including Beaufort Securities and Hartley Pensions, helping to protect many private investors from substantial losses.

Mark also played a key role in developing ShareSoc’s IT systems and was an active participant in SIGnet, where he supported its growth as an educational and networking forum.

More latterly he remained an active director and contributor to regional groups following his move to Seaham.

Mark was a strong and thoughtful advocate for shareholders’ interests and he will be greatly missed.
