One in 10 investment trust board directors have no ‘skin in the game’

By Cliff Weight, ShareSoc Director The new remuneration guidelines from the Investment Association have this to say about Share Ownership: Non-Executive Shareholding Shareholders encourage non-executive directors to own shares...

RIT Capital Partners, Foresight 4 VCT and Sepsis

RIT Capital Partners (RCP) is an investment trust that recently issued its interim report. As one of my longer standing holdings, first purchased in 2003 although I have reduced my holding of late, I read the report with interest. RCP has been a long-standing favourite of private investors having traditionally taken a somewhat defensive investment approach. But the portfolio is now most peculiar. It contains 8.8% of “quoted equities” but many of them are held as “swaps”, 27.7% in “long-only funds”, ...

Alliance Trust and RIT Capital

Several newspapers reported this morning that Alliance Trust (ATST) has been approached by RIT Capital Partners (RCP) about a possible merger. Both companies are listed investment trusts favoured by private investors. Alliance Trust has been going through some difficult times of late after a period of poor relative performance resulting in a high discount to net asset value (currently over 10% according to the AIC despite an active share buy-back programme whereas RCP is on a 6% premium at the time ...

RIT Capital Partners Investment Trust (RCP) AGM Report 2013

I attended the AGM of the RIT Capital Partners Investment Trust (LSE:RCP) this morning. I have held RCP (in varying sizes) since 2002 and over that timeframe the investment trust has delivered well on its objective of capital preservation and growth. The (substantial) room chosen for the meeting proved rather small for the 60+ attendees, and a video link to an adjoining ...

RIT Capital Partners PLC (RCP) AGM Report 2012

RIT Capital Partners PLC held its Annual General Meeting today (26th July) at the Institute of Directors, Pall Mall London. The performance numbers at a glance were not the best, NAV down 3.2% and a share price drop of 6.7%. RIT’s policy is to invest in a diversified international portfolio across a range of asset classes. A very well attended meeting with well over 80 shareholders present, although mostly of the retired male persuasion. It is a pity more younger shareholders cannot ...

RIT Capital Partners (RCP) AGM Report 2011

RIT Capital Partners held its AGM at Spencer House in St. James, London on the 28th July 2011. This impressive building is also used partly as the offices of the company, but otherwise is a splendid venue for weddings, corporate events or parties (see www.spencerhouse.co.uk ). It’s also open to the public for guided tours on Sundays. Unfortunately this venue meant that shareholders had to be accommodated in three separate rooms with a video link from the main room. The Chairman, Lord ...
