Titon (TON) AGM Report 2016

There were several shareholders present, including two ex-employees. As with last year, the AGM was held in Titon’s offices in Stanway and the company made shareholders feel welcome. All resolutions were passed. The following are my notes, please excuse any errors/omissions. Commenting on their current trading, TON hasn't seen any impact despite Geopolitical worries and concerns in financial mrkts. One of their current concerns is Brexit, but that’s mainly based on the uncertainty around it - TON doesn't mind outcome as long ...

Schroder UK Mid Cap Investment Trust (SCP) AGM 2016

I attended the AGM of Schroder Mid Cap investment Trust (SCP) today 10/2/2016 The meeting commenced on time and all board members were present which was good to see. This included Rachel Beagles who is retiring and Robert Talbut who has just been appointed today. The Chairman introduced his colleagues to the audience which consisted of circa 12 shareholders. There then followed an interesting presentation from Rosemary Banyard of Schroders who is the present lead fund manager. She will retire from Schroders at ...

Connect Group (CNCT) AGM Report 2016

Please note that this report represents my personal opinions about Connect Group and its management. It is not intended to be a public document, and I do not wish to affect my relationship with the management by disclosing it to them, so please do not circulate this report or republish on any other websites. Background & Investment Overview I have been a shareholder in Connect Group for four years now and it has proved rather a successful investment, so far, mainly as a result of entering at ...

Finsbury Growth & Income Trust (FGT) AGM Report 2016

I attended the Annual General Meeting of this company in the City of London Guildhall today. The meeting started at 12.00 am (and with no refreshments before, only after). In my experience Chairmen who choose that time usually do so as it enables them to cut off questions early (e.g. at 1.00 pm when folks are getting hungry), and so it turned out. The Chairman Anthony Townsend who also chairs seven other companies (way too many!) did not bother to introduce his ...

Baronsmead VCT 1 and 2 Merger General Meetings (BDV and BVT) 2016

I attended the General Meeting of Baronsmead VCT this morning in London. It was immediately followed by a similar General Meeting for Baronsmead VCT 2, which I did not stick around for as my questions had been covered in the first meeting. These meetings were to approve the merger of these VCTs to form one larger Venture Capital Trust. The merger was on the usual "proportional net asset value" basis used for VCT mergers and as the two portfolios are almost ...

Diploma (DPLM) AGM Report 2016

I attended the Annual General Meeting of Diploma PLC (DPLM) on the 20th January in the City of London at 12.00 am. Diploma is a fully listed company with a market cap of about £760m and revenue of £333m last year. It produces and sells a range of specialist technical products. Historically it has obtained good growth from both acquisitions and organic growth. It seems to acquire typically small/medium private companies where the owners wish to sell, which are complementary to ...

Northern Venture Trust (NVT) AGM Report 2015

I attended the Annual General Meeting of Northern Venture Trust (NVT) today. This is of course a Venture Capital Trust (VCT) which was one of the first VCTs to launch back in 1995, when I bought a few shares. Yes I have been holding this company for 20 years, and have bought more over the years because it is one of the more successful VCTs. According to the AIC, the NAV Total Return over ten years is exactly 300 (i.e. £100 pound ...

Paragon Entertainment (PEL) AGM 2015

Attendees: Mark Taylor Executive Chairman (MT) Mark Pyrah CEO (MP) Peter Holdsworth Production Director (PH) Martin Barratt NED (MB) Jarrod Marsden Financial Controller (JM) X2 Private Investors, including myself and X2 PI’s via telephone connection. No recording of the AGM was made and this is a representation of my notes and understanding of comments made including interpretations by myself. I am not, nor have I ever been, qualified to give financial advice and nothing in this article should be taken as such. All comments should be taken as ...

DotDigital Group (DOTD) AGM Report 2015

I was the only ordinary shareholder who turned up for the Annual General Meeting of DotDigital (DOTD) today (15/12/2015). That's the same as last year. It was a convenient location and time so that's a bit surprising, but apparently they have few private shareholders. They have shown steady revenue and profits growth in the last few years and they even pay a small dividend. Perhaps lack of private investor interest is because the previous CEO Peter Simmonds never gave great presentations ...

Ten Alps (TAL) AGM 2015

Ten Alps (TAL), the TV production and publishing group founded by ageing rockstar Sir Bob Geldof, has long since disappeared from the investment screens of most investors despite the fact that it continues to churn out a stream of award winning TV documentaries ranging from heavy weight BBC subjects such as the 50th anniversary of Churchill’s funeral and Panoroma reports on the Ebola crisis, to high-brow cultural programmes on Shakespeare and David Hockney. TAL’s record over the last five years explains why ...
