Just sharing my experience with Hargreaves Lansdown. I have had a SIPP with them for many years and it has been fine – until I applied to access the money having recently retired. Because of a minor error in the paperwork from my occupational pension, HL refuse to release any money. They keep telling me to get the letter from the NHS pensions scheme corrected and naturally the NHS people will not co-operate.Then they tell me to get a certificate from HMRC – but the HMRC people will not tell me how to get the certificate because it is a new thing and they dont know how to issue it. So effectively I am stuck, This has been going on for over a month. The SIPP is in my name, but effectively I do not own it, because HL control the access and will not allow me to withdraw my money. Their attitude is basically ‘computer says no’/ Had I known this before I entrusted my life savings too HL there is no way I would have gone near them. I urge readers of this thread to look elsewhere.

The majority of the group have both longer term investments and carry out shorter term trades, too. They would term themselves both ‘investors’ with a longer term outlook and ‘traders’ with a shorter term outlook. The group members have broad experience in the markets – including across all asset classes and vehicles (shares – companies, trusts, ETFs, funds; spread-bets, CFDs, Options, Crypto). However, most of the group are predominantly interested in equities within the context of a portfolio. Although some members are highly experienced traders that is not true of all and experience level should not be seen as an impediment to joining. So, if you don’t know who Richard Wyckoff was, or why Fibonacci is even more relevant today than in the 11th Century – don’t worry! Every day is a ‘school day’ for us all – Mr Market makes sure of that! |

Additionally, experience of different investing software and information sources provides good insights into what members find works well for them. If an investment related subject is of interest to the majority of the group then it is included, such as government budget announcements, pensions and inheritance tax etc. |

Covid forced a change to video conferencing for meetings.
