Sprue Aegis (SPRP) A.G.M Notes and Site 2014

Graham Whitworth Chaired the meeting supported by John Gahan and Neil Rutter. Peter Lawrence was also present. Approximately 20 attendees including Private Investors, House Broker and other Investment professionals. These are my own Notes and please note I am not licensed or qualified to give financial advice and none should be taken. Any views are my own. I have no prior knowledge of SPRP’s products or expertise and have been a shareholder for approximately 3 years, buying in and adding on ...

British Country Inns 2 (BCI) EGM Report 2014

On the 19th September I attended a General Meeting of British Country Inns 2 to approve the adoption of new Articles. See the September ShareSoc newsletter for the background to my opposition to the new Articles and the history of this company. It was a brief meeting, so this report will be brief. Only I and two of the directors were present. I asked whether any proxy forms had been rejected (because the Chairman, Martin Sherwood, had previously threatened to do so if ...

Diageo (DGE) AGM Report 2014

Yesterday (the 18th September) I attended the Annual General Meeting of Diageo Plc. Being the day of the Scottish Independence vote, there were some questions on that issue for the board, but all the CEO said was that you can be assured we will fiercely fight for free trade, currency stability and no more tax and regulation. The Chairman said it was for the people of Scotland to decide, even though Diageo is headquartered in Scotland. You know the outcome by ...

Berkeley Group (BKG) AGM Report 2014

I attended the Annual General Meeting of housebuilders Berkeley Group today. This was at a hotel near the company's head office in deepest Surrey which did not please everyone it transpired but to which I had no objections. There were about 15 shareholders present and more questions than last year, when there were none apparently. The company issued an Interim Management Statement on the morning of the AGM, which the Chairman, Tony Pidgley, proceeded to read out in full. Here are just ...

Oxford Technology VCTs (OXT) AGM Reports 2014

On the 27th August I attended the Annual General Meetings of the four Oxford Technology VCTs in Oxford. These are held in a rather unusual way with all four meetings being effectively combined except for the formal business and with David Livesley chairing much of the event, but with the individual company chairmen responding on specific points. I have referred to the "Chairman" below at the time rather than naming individuals. The companies do of course have a lot of common shareholders and a number of ...

Majestic Wine (WINE) – a taster and AGM Report 2014

As a shareholder in Majestic Wine I decided to try their web site a couple of weeks before today's AGM encouraged by a special shareholder offer, so I ordered a few bottles to make up a half case. The Chilean Malbec (Con Ami Gos) showed cool sophistication, packed with crunchy blackcurrant fruit and hints of spice. Highly recommended. Likewise the Chilean Merlot (120 Santa Rita) was smooth with aromas of strawberry, plum and vanilla.... which built into a stylish finish. The ...

Monks Investment Trust (MNKS) AGM Report 2014

Yesterday (5/8/2014), I attended the Annual General Meeting of the Monks Investment Trust held at the IOD in London. This is a long established trust managed by Baillie Gifford. It has an investment focus on international equities but has a rather idiosyncratic portfolio because it is very much a "bottom-up" stock picking approach. Gerald Smith is the lead fund manager who has been there some time, now supported by Tom Walsh. Performance in the last few years has been comparatively poor. As ...

Northern 2 VCT (NTV) AGM Report 2014

This is a brief report of the Northern 2 VCT which I attended on the 30th July because I left after 30 minutes because I had a doctors appointment elsewhere. There were about a dozen shareholders present which for a hot day in July is perhaps as good as could be expected. Northern 2 VCT is one of the better performing VCTs in that it at least has given a total return of 3.7% per annum according to Allenbridge, i.e. it has ...

National Grid (NG.) AGM 2014

I attended the Annual General Meeting of National Grid Plc on the 28th July, at the ICC in Birmingham. A few shareholders complained about the 11.30 start time (it transpired that they held it in the afternoon previously), but I can't say that it was of concern to me. However finding somewhere to park near the venue was not easy (poorly signposted) and road closures in central Birmingham did not help. I would estimate 200 to 300 shareholders attended, and they generally seemed happy ‐ I ...

Halfords Group plc (HFD) AGM 2014

Today I attended the 10th Annual General Meeting of Halfords Group plc at the Hilton Garden Inn, Birmingham. The hotel was a pleasant enough location but marred by both the St Chad's and Queensway tunnels in central Birmingham being closed, thus making the journey by car a bit of a pain to say the least (the last 2 miles took over 30 minutes). With 15 shareholders present we opened with the Chairman, Dennis Millard, giving a statement outlining the results in the ...
